Every year thousands of wild and domestic horses from Colorado and other states are being shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered and processed into food for Asian and European markets or are live shipped to countries like Japan for slaughter there. Often the person relinquishing his or her horse, perhaps because they can no longer afford to care for it, has no idea the buyer intends to sell the horse for slaughter.
