Lori Greenstone - President

In the summer of 2011, Lori joined the board of Colorado Voters for Animals.  With a background as a business owner, Lori brings to the organization 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, negotiations and business administration.

Lori led the volunteer legislative task force for a local canine advocacy group and was successful in persuading seven of our nine federal legislators to cosponsor the PUPS Act.

Lori has a long-term commitment to passing pro-animal legislation on a bipartisan basis and believes in bringing all sides together to find common ground.  

In addition to animal advocacy Lori volunteers her time doing hospice pet therapy with her cairn terrier, Nigel.  When not volunteering, she enjoys studying the French and Italian languages, doing needlework, reading, listening to music and traveling.

Faye Kagan - Vice President/Treasurer

Faye joined the Board of CVA in 2016 and brings to the organization both her lifelong love of animals and her extensive experience in politics and the law.  Her political education began as an aide on Capitol Hill and continued as an activist plaintiff’s lawyer in Washington, D.C.  Faye knows about fundraising, having served on the finance committee of a successful U.S. Senate race, and understands the vagaries of Colorado politics from having supported her husband, State Senator Daniel Kagan, for four terms in the State House of Representatives and now as a State Senator. Faye is an active volunteer and event organizer for a variety of causes

Faye is a graduate of the University of Arizona and Georgetown University Law Center. She enjoys travel, reading and cooking and has 3 human and 2 canine children.

Roland Halpern - Executive Director

Roland began as a CVA volunteer in 2013 and became its executive director in 2017. Roland holds an undergraduate degree from Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio, a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University, Denver, Colorado, and is an ordained animal chaplain through the Emerson Theological Institute.

Mr. Halpern was instrumental in helping pass Prop 106, the Colorado End-of-Life Options Act, making Colorado the sixth state to offer terminally ill individuals an additional medical treatment option at the end of life.

A staunch advocate for individual rights, Roland has been the recipient of several ministerial awards for outstanding community service in the area of social justice. He is actively involved with numerous animal welfare groups both locally and nationwide and presents his Getting Political for Animals advocacy training at universities, churches and community groups. He also serves as vice-president on the board of the Colorado Council of Churches and is certified as a Human-Animal Bond Specialist by NAVC and HABRI.

Kristina Bergsten

Kristina is a graduate of the Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law and works in the field of criminal defense and animal law. Her practice includes veterinary malpractice, civil suits to recover stolen pets, breeder contracts, adoption contracts, pet custody agreements, and civil suits for misrepresenting the health or breed of an adopted or purchased pet.

Andrea Metzger

Andrea Metzger is a Colorado native and a lifelong animal activist, beginning at age 12 when she started posting anti-seal hunt flyers on the grocery store bulletin board. She has since been active in several Denver/Boulder animal advocacy organizations.

Andrea's introduction to political campaigns began with collecting signatures for the 1992 state ballot initiative that banned spring bear hunting. A trip to England in 1995 to visit and learn from British animal advocacy groups convinced her of the importance of political activism for animals. The following year Andrea volunteered as a district coordinator and graphic designer for the ballot initiative that banned recreational and commercial trapping in Colorado.

Andrea was invited to join the board of CVA - then called Political Voice for Animals - in 1999, and was president from 2005 to 2011. She has provided graphic design services to CVA and several other animal organizations, helped local rescue groups with adoption events and kitten fostering, and serves as Potluck Coordinator for the Denver Vegans Meetup group.

Andrea graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado and worked for several years as a graphic artist. She is currently employed in the nonprofit sector, in the Membership department at Colorado Public Television.

Dana Orr

Dana Orr is a graduate of James Madison University, where she first became active in human welfare issues and animal welfare issues. Currently working at a non-profit in Lakewood, Colorado, she also volunteers and assists with event coordination at a non-profit called Tindakan. Having served on the board of another non-profit, she has experience in fundraising, event planning, social outreach, as well as applied research. 

Sunny Weber

Sunny has over 30 years’ experience in pet rescue, shelter and sanctuary work, service and therapy dog training, temperament testing, behavior evaluation, obedience competition, fostering, medical care, and horse ground training. She has consulted with pet owners and rescue organizations regarding animal behavior diagnosis, enrichment, and adoption protocols.

 

Sunny is a professional humane educator and has developed domestic and wildlife programs for all ages.  A Colorado State Park Naturalist, she developed educational programs regarding urban wildlife cohabitation, especially focused on coyotes.
