Rep. Beth McCann Receives Humane Leadership Award from Colorado Voters for Animals

Colorado Voters for Animals recognized Rep. Beth McCann at a reception on Nov. 6 with a special award for Leadership in Promoting Humane Legislation.

Rep. McCann (D-Denver) took office in 2009 as state representative in Colorado’s House District 8 and sponsored legislation to protect dogs in commercial breeding facilities that same year.

In 2010 she sponsored and helped pass, legislation creating and Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet license plate, which has raised thousands of dollars to benefit Colorado’s homeless animals.

In 2011 Rep. McCann sponsored legislation to ban horse-tripping and steer-tailing, two cruel events held at some unsanctioned rodeos in Colorado; and she founded the state’s first Animal Welfare Legislative Caucus, which continues to grow in lawmaker, as well as citizen, membership. Rep. McCann’s caucus meets monthly during the legislative session to discuss animal protection issues and provide updates on relevant legislation.

Rep. McCann maintains a perfect voting record with Colorado Voters for Animals. She received her award at a Denver gathering hosted by Colorado Voters for Animals with friends, constituents, and fellow animal advocates in attendance.
